The White Wolf - Ron Roy, John Steven Gurney

I could have sworn that The Deadly Dungeon wasn't Wallis Wallace's final appearance in the series, and The White Wolf finally proves me right. Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose have travelled to Mount Desert Island in Maine to visit Wallis and her brother, Walker. Since we've last seen her, Wallis has adopted a teenage girl, Abbi, who suffers from spina bifida and uses a wheelchair. During her time on the island, Abbi has been keeping an eye on a mother wolf and her cubs... but shortly after Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose arrive, she witnesses a pair of poachers steal the cubs.

If that sounds familiar, it's because we've already had a poaching book, The Canary Caper. In that installment, Josh was the die-hard animal enthusiast; now, Abbi gets the role, though all the kids clearly still care about the wolves.

As usual, it's a simple mystery perfect for elementary school (and younger) readers. Kids with spina bifida (or kids who know someone with spina bifida) will likely appreciate Abbi, as I think it's safe to say the disorder isn't exactly frequently seen in children's fiction. Definitely recommended to young mystery lovers, animal lovers, and the wheelchair bound.
